Summary

Michigan Medicine’s C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital School Program is seeking a part time (16 hrs/wk) Certified Teacher for a 12-month Fellowship to provide educational support and direct instruction for patients at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital within our hospital classroom and in patient rooms.  This teacher, the Fellow, will engage with patients who are significantly impacted by chronic illness and their families.  The age range of the potential patient population is Kindergarten through college with an emphasis on reading intervention and the K-8 population. We promote a culture of innovation and inclusion that respects individual strengths, preferences, and experiences to foster patient and family-centered and developmentally appropriate care.

The Fellowship provides opportunities for expanding both professional and personal networks through the unique opportunity to learn with and from hospital teachers, school liaisons, and interdisciplinary colleagues. This collaborative partnership serves children and teens with varying intensive medical needs.  The Fellowship is designed to provide qualified applicants the opportunity to advance their education through participation in academic programming and direct instruction.

Responsibilities*

Collaboratively working with an interdisciplinary team, the Fellow will work to meet the academic needs of children within the hospital setting.

Required Qualifications*

  1. Current teacher certification.
  2. Ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  3. Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  4. Ability to work independently without direct supervision.

Desired Qualifications*

  1. Experience in the hospital setting or an alternative setting.
  2. Experience implementing educational strategies and interventions as well as planning instructional lessons for a wide variety of learners.
  3. Experience with standard research methods.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.

COVID-19 vaccinations are required for all students, faculty and staff working in the following areas: Michigan Medicine including the Medical School, Dental School, University Health Service or the Mary A.
